You probably aren’t aware of this, but you have a microclimate surrounding your skin at all times. It’s an extremely thin layer of air which is with you wherever you go. Your microclimate is essential for keeping your body comfortable and at the right temperature. Studies have shown that we like a microclimate of 32°C with around 30% humidity, if we don’t have this then we start to feel uncomfortable. It’s not just simple comfort that’s at risk, more serious health problems can arise from a bad microclimate.

We believe in the importance of microclimates to creating the perfect seating experience, so we have designed all of our AiroSpring pressure relief cushions, back support cushions and mattress overlays with your microclimate in mind.

AiroSpring cushions provide the perfect microclimate for the skin. Our products are the only cushions assembled entirely from 3D knitted Spacer fabrics made in the UK. In most cases, three layers of Spacer fabric are used, each one bringing in its own different compression qualities. Add these layers together and you have a cushion which combines the best qualities of each. They really do create the pinnacle in comfort, health and hygiene.

AiroSpring Microclimate Technology

Crafted with Your Health in Mind

Each 3D Spacer fabric has been engineered to transfer moisture vapour away. This helps to keep the surface of the skin cool and dry, which are the two important factors in determining your microclimate.

Microclimates are important in preventing unwanted skin conditions. It’s been claimed that wet skin has only 4% of the strength of dry skin, leaving it much more susceptible to breaks, sores and rashes. Don’t take any risks when it comes to your health.

Recent tests to British Standard EN 11092 (the publication that acts as the standard for textiles and other materials) have confirmed the performance of our products and their ability to assist in dissipating perspiration. In addition, our 3D knitted Spacer fabrics received a full patent in 2014, demonstrating the benefits that it can have for cushions and other products.

What all this shows is that we don’t simply make claims, we prove them beyond doubt and in doing so present the very best in pressure relief cushions and microclimate products. That’s why we’re so confident that our products will benefit you.

The microclimate keeps the skin cool and healthy and there’s very good reason to want to achieve this. Recent guidance from the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) states “Heat increases the metabolic rate, induces sweating and decreases the tolerance of the tissue for pressure. When body heat cannot dissipate it will increase the risk of skin breakdown and may impede healing”.

Pressure ulcers are a really nasty health problem that’s both painful and entirely avoidable. Wheelchair users or those who spend a lot of time sitting down are the most at risk of these and we have designed our cushions and mattress overlays with their prevention in mind.

Our patented fabric technology helps to keep such problems at bay. Heat and moisture transfer allows skin to breathe, working in unison with the 3D Spacer fabric to provide the most comfortable and healthy surface for your body.

Cushions and Toppers

We also stock our very own mattress overlays, which incorporate the same microclimate technology as our cushions. If you’re sweating at night or seeing skin irritation of any kind, our overlays can transform your sleep and leave you waking up feeling fresh with healthier skin.
